wow, that's low for NYC.
I graduated in '93 in CA no name state u. Made $26K at a non profit, with PTO and retirement plan. It was a dead end job for me; I didn't enjoy it.
Learned how to code a little bit, and in 1998 was making $45K, then jumped to $180K in 2000. Highest I ever got paid was close to $300K. I took time off to be a sahm, and when I went back my pay dropped to $160K.

My first job in 2003 was 48K software developer, I was under paid so a year later I took a job at 75k

$37K. I'd been in the workforce for about six years at that point. $58K was a pretty good salary at that time. I hope you bought real estate then!

Graduated from college in 1998. In 2000 I was still at my first job, making around $25k, no student loans, able to live totally comfortably. One roommate had similar salary, another made $45k at a consulting firm and we thought she was rich, boyfriend worked on the Hill for around $20k.

job in 1994 was $25k. in 2000, was making $110k. laid off a few times, took until 2012 to hit that level again.
now making $240k, totally looking forward to going through layoff and recession again at this age. primary wage earner and have a small kid, was just getting my savings back in order after dealing with eldercare.

2000 I was making $82k working for a media company. Had 8 years experience. Felt very comfortable and had my own apartment.
An inflation calculator says that would be $151k today. Definitely not what people on my team at that level make now.
My salary has grown, now at $175k, despite a 6 year SAHM break.

Started as a GS-9 step one in 1999 (earning $33,500, which was barely enough to support myself, given my $85 k in student debt).
Today I’m with the same federal agency, as a GS-15 earning $195 k.
Maybe in the coming weeks or months I’ll be back down to zero???…

I made 68k at my first job in 2007. I eventually got up to 80k then quit to be a SAHM. I now work part time in a totally different area making 50k.
