Private schools? Yes, know several kids who were expelled. One for weapons, one for stealing, one for behavior issues. They weren't "counseled" out, they were there one day and gone the next.

I taught at a private. We "counsel out" as opposed to expel. I've actually never heard anyone characterize a student's departure as expulsion.

Yes. I taught in Chicago for 5 years at an alternative highschool for students who were either expelled or dropped (due to non attendance) from Chicago Public Schools. As teachers we were not privy to the reason why students were at the school.

At the elementary school I am at now we do not expel students unless there are extreme circumstances. In the four years I have been here it has happened once for an extremely violent student in a regular classroom. They had gotten their own aid, breaks, etc but were extremely violent.

I'm an MCPS. I've seen and had students who were perpetrators and victims of horrible assaults in mcps. I don't think I ever saw suspension. Teachers losing their jobs bc the kids are crazy kids violent and uncontrollable on the other hand; they get rid of us and blame us as the problem. Even our union fights us alongside the admin and we pay them money.

Two - one at my son’s high school for reckless driving in the parking lot that resulted in a passenger being airlifted for head trauma, and one in middle school for some sort of doxxing incident that almost got a kid shot by the police.

Yes, it happens in private school or else they are counseled out. In our 7 years of private school, we know of 2 students in DD's primary school who were counseled out and we know of 2 students who were expelled in the middle school last spring. All were because of behavioral issues. Our school will ask students with prominent parents to leave if the issues are severe enough and/or will at least intervene to get counseling or other support if/when there are issues if enough parents complain.

- threatening another student and mentioning gun
- alcohol/drug use on school trip
- bullying conduct

Privates expell kids.
I have kids at 3 different privates (very different extracurricular interests/academic needs) and kids from their skills have been expelled for a broad range of reasons in middle through HS.

Threatening the school on social media
Excessive fighting
Alcohol on campus
Physically threatening a teacher

Once schools cannot guarantee the safety of the people in their building, the person needs to go.

+1. I knew a handful of kids who were expelled from private schools when I was growing up, mostly for fighting and drugs. I used to teach at a PK-8 private school and we "counseled out" a good number of students who were disruptive or causing problems. The biggest private feeder high school also kicked kids out to the public schools for various reasons. Either way, it's almost impossible to get expelled from public school anymore. Selling drugs, sexual offenses, fighting that causes serious injuries, or bringing a weapon will probably get the student assigned to an alternative school but the district still has to educate them or pay for them to be educated elsewhere.

Someone from my private boarding school was expelled for sneaking off campus to Wendy’s in the middle of the night. That’s the only one I know of.

It’s not that hard to get expelled from private school. Public school these days is a different story.

My brother was expelled from two local privates. I know two men who were expelled from Gonzaga — one was a legacy and the rumor is he was expelled twice.

It happens around here. A lot. I know others who were counseled out of NCS, Holton, and SR.
