S Beach worked great for us end of March last yr on the beach and in the water. You absolutely do not need to trek further out.

I lived there. We never went in unless it was 80 water temp. Snowbirds used to 65 on the Cape may manage.

Panhandle temps are SIGNIFICANTLY lower than South FL.
