It seems superficial but some schools like Langley, Madison and Robinson seem to rack up championships every year and others like Herndon, Falls Church and Justice never seem to.

Because Langley is in a very wealthy neighborhood that kids were trained in both academics and athletics at a very early age. Poor people live in Justice pyramid, and they don't have the resource. Does that answer your question?

Our local FCPS HS is mediocre academically but the sports teams are almost impossible to make for normal sports. On top of that, kids seem to transfer in to play sports, taking even more spots. So kids who would make a team and play at a smaller school have no chance of participating in their own school's activities. Its a real bummer.
Hayfield?
I was going to guess Westfield or South Lakes.

Not sure why Herndon continues to get dumped on for everything, but while Herndon does not have a ton of recent "District" championships, in the past five years, Herndon has won several Region championships including Boys Soccer, Baseball, Girls Volleyball, Dance Team and has had a number of dominant individual athletes including those in Boys Swimming, Boys and Girls Cross Country/Indoor/Outdoor Track and others. Many of the sports teams are both accessible and successful. Kind of a win-win situation, no?
It’s because parents like you have this weird inferiority complex. Totally happy for your kids that they won in those sports, just don’t advocate to bring my neighborhood kids to your school, and we can leave it at that.
And when the school board does its thing, don’t ever complain about those kids taking your kids’ spots or that it’s difficult to make a sports team with 2,700 kids at the school. You’ll get no sympathy at all for that complaint.
