I think it all depends. My child got in with a 33 ACT and had strong rigor. Sometimes its just a numbers game and remember that your child is being compared against their peers so it really depends on what school they are at.

UMD not more prestigious. Purdue 8th best undergraduate university in the US. UMD is 16.

UIUC engineering is not easy to get into as well. 1500+ gets you a shot at it but not guaranteed.

I know one student at Purdue for eng. That student did not get into UMD (a resident).
