They decreased the number of arrival flights per hour. They said the normal delay will be 50 minutes.

I don’t think this is true.

It is- the planes landing per hour were reduced from 28 to 26 after the accident. But the 50 minute delay is not accurate. It's unknown what the full impact will be. But it's not great, for sure

IAD should be fine. They have 4 separate large runways, so they can actively plow one runway while the other 3 are in use. No delays likely, other than maybe for de-icing.

DCA only has one “long”runway suitable for standard sized jets (as different from a 50-75 seat regional jet). Plowing DCA’s main runway requires temporarily closing it, which creates delays.

Did not know this. Good to know! Thanks

I’m flying out of DCA Monday morning on AA and the airline offered to change my flight for free. I’m sure you can leave earlier if it’s important for you to depart on Tuesday.

Tuesday during the day will probably be ok.

If you can easily move to an earlier flight, do it. If you can’t, I would drop off the dog early and get to the airport before it starts.

No one knows. So many factors involved other than just if the airport is open. Who knows where the plane is coming from. Crew may be stuck somewhere else where it did storm worse. There’s no way to know until the day of.

Latest forecast I saw said 4-8 inches happening slowly from noon Tuesday until Thursday morning. It’s not going to be THAT cold so it’s not like they will close the airport or if they do not for very long. So some flights will get in/out but who knows which ones. A lot will come down to plowing and deicing and the timing of the precipitation. It’s foolish to ask strangers if they think your specific flight will occur.

The good part about this storm from a travel perspective is that it is more of a drawn-out, moderate event. Airports and roads are much worse off when the snowfall rates are high and the plows can't keep up.
