I’m not sure what home rule would be for at this point? What do they want to change?

They want to outlaw abortion and implement all kinds of social engineering.

Who would technically run DC? The House?

The executive branch. They already run parts of DC. The national parks service does local parks, Capitol police are responsible for parts of DC, etc.

True. The parts of DC under the executive branch are the only ones efficiently run. Can you imagine Bowser in charge of the National Mall or Rock Creek Park? It would be a disaster.

The National Park Service isn't an example of great governance...most of the national mall looks like shit and there is almost nothing done with Rock Creek Park.

I gather then you are fine with closing Beach Drive...that's NPS.

In comparison to the parts under the jurisdiction of DC government, the executive branch is doing a great job running its parts of DC.

That's again a silly statement. NPS barely has to do anything, and yet it does it badly. They don't provide security for the National Mall or RCP..DC does. They just have to cut and maintain the grass on the Mall (which they do a poor job) and literally don't do anything much in RCP...it's in fact mostly DC volunteers that do a bunch of maintenance in RCP.

Nobody who actually deals with NPS thinks they run a tight ship. It's way worse than dealing with DPR and DGS which services DC fields.

Again, in comparison to what the DC government does, it is still better. The Bowser government has placed the bar too low that anybody can do a better job. Even Trump and Elon Musk to say the least.

Seriously? All the little federally owned pocket parks are never mown in the summer, nor are their sidewalks shoveled in winter.

This wouldn't violate the Byrd Rule?

Getting rid of Home Rule would greatly increase the federal budget. And it would do so beyond the 10 year budgeting window - a big violation of the Byrd Rule.

This is DOA.

Fire them all. The city is a sewer.

My councilman spent all of his limited political capital trying to get bike lanes on Connecticut Ave while addicts/homeless were simultaneously terrorizing old women on fixed incomes in once safe apartment buildings in Ward 3. Not a great look.

It'll pass the Senate. The vote will be along party lines.

You need 60 votes for something like this unless they stuff it into a budget bill. They don’t have 60 votes for this.

Lots of “moderate” dems will work across the aisle to get this done. The moderate dems are already working with the republicans on debt ceiling, Trump’s Gaza plan, allowing trumps third term, etc.

That's a silly comment. Rubio got a lot support, but almost none of the other picks received more than the 53 republican votes. Of course Hegseth didn't even get all the republican votes.

The existence bureaucracy does mostly nothing and it is heavily corrupt, starting from the top.
