Also, are you having a chocolate milk after you run? I know it sounds crazy, but my coaches had me doing that after runs.

Finally, now, the best thing to conquer my "OMG, I am so hungry, I'm about to pass out" is a glass of milk. (2% or whole.) The fat helps me actually feel full.

I was coming here to say this! When I used to do longer distance runs (like 10 miles) I would crave a cold glass of milk when I got back. Nature's Gatorade, I guess.

You need a go-to quick post-run meal. Whether its a pre-made sandwich, a Factor (or similar) meal, some pre-cooked chicken breast, hard boiled eggs, a protein shake etc. Something that you can get in your system as soon as you finish running so you don't go binge crazy on the snacks and junk food.

Also try running at different times of day. Morning runs make me hungry while a run before dinner can suppress my appetite.

That's disgusting.

Why? My errands include dropping books off at the library, getting gas, dropping letters at the post office, etc, none of which involve entering a building.

Sitting in your sweat, in the car, home etc..., no matter if others see you, is gross. I need to shower within 15 minutes of a run.

This was no effect on you. Why do you care?

Yeah, that totally doesn't help me. I'll still hungry until I get carbs. I can binge on eggs, chicken, etc, but hunger is not satisfied until the cracker or pasta.

Then that's not true hunger. It's a craving. There is a difference.

This. Crackers & Pasta are both quick processed carbs. Veggies are also carbs. Mind over matter.

Track your macros, and budget to have a carb-containing (but not carb-prioritizing) meal 1-2 hours after your run. Allow yourself a SMALL carb snack with a protein shake post-run (think 30-70 calories) with your protein-shake or other high-carb food. If you're truly hungry, go with cottage cheese over a shake because it'll last longer and help you feel more full.

Your body burns quick fuel for short distance runs, which is what most of the 5k training is going to be (even if it feels like a long distance to you). You have to understand that about your brain and push through its demand to immediately refuel with quick carbs like bread and sugar.

I keep a protein drink ready for almost immediate consumption after a heavy cardio session. Then I can eat normally once I have time to get past that urge to consume.

Calling rungry is deceiving yourself. Your body wants homeostasis. If you start burning more calories, or eating less, your body will ”crave” food. You need to eat high protein and high fiber foods, and track your caloric intake. You are gaining because you are consuming more than you are burning.
