I can confirm. I listen to them over the course of days- driving and walking my dog mostly. On two occasions, I have listened to a 3-4 hour podcast. It took a couple weeks to get through.

This.

Data indicates people either like super short content or super long. Apparently surveys have indicated an hour isn’t long enough.

Specific to Rogan: he’s in a category alone. He was the first to generate a loyal audience enabling him to commercialize his chit chat and commentary. The longer the show, the more ads/revenue.

Reminds me of Howard Stern though. I don't even know if he's on anymore but his mainstream radio show went on for hours. I used to tune in for a few minutes but could not imagine listening for hours every day. Leisurely, endless talk.

Why are books so long?

Yes, this is what I think.

I like an hour-long episode. Beyond that, I think most people need an editor.

Why on earth would I want to hear every single detail and tiny anecdote that the producers can come up with, random filler stories and meaningless exposition, clearly trying so hard to stretch the time out as long as possible? If Dateline can tell great true crime stories in 40 minutes, 90 minutes tops, then I certainly dont need to waste TWELVE HOURS of my life listening to these meandering stories that tell the same thing

Well there's websites and services that summarize clickbait so you don't have to click.

"It’s Official—Costco Just Confirmed a Controversial Change to Its Food Courts | They're switching from Pepsi to Coke products."

You could make an efficient podcast that trims out the annoying stuff.

Oh I'm aware. That's my point... especially in the case of true crime where I can just easily google the name of the parties involved and get a quick synopsis article including sentencing, why on earth would I want to be strung along for 12 hours? It just makes no sense whatsoever, especially when there's plenty of podcasts that do a good job of suspenseful storytelling while still wrapping it up within an hour.
