Side note: I was not a This is Us fan at all--due to the writing feeling a touch emotionally manipulative to me--and I only watched a few episodes before bailing. I didn't really have an opinion of Sterling K. Brown at the time but I absolutely love him in this. He's got a wonderful presence and has the ability to let so many emotions flicker across his face--I love that.

I actually love this. They usually play the regular version earlier in the episode in a non-ironic way, then the later version hits differently because of what's going on in the episode. For me, it's a fun layer ... and a chance to think a little harder about those 1980s songs that I've heard so many times I don't usually listen to them anymore.

The tell for me is that I have't rushed to watch the episodes past the pilot. I will, just not really that compelling.
