This. In the CDS, it said something like 85 percent of admits (for which they had info) were in the top 10% of their class. Can be hard at strong high schools.

I am hearing that a lot of deferrals are coming from high schools that already locked in a lot of students in the ED round. This is not surprising.

When you already got in to UNC or Michigan, it's safe to say you have a cohesive applications that tells a good story.

I used to think about this until I saw it happen to a kid I know who was an excellent writer, obviously had good recs and was accepted into schools that are a harder admit. So, what is that things you can't put a number on?

It could be the type of Apps that are taken, some are considered soft. Also, 9 might not be competitive enough against their peers

I think unfortunately, with so many students with high stats it comes down to how your application comes together as a whole. What is the story that has unfolded within 4 years? Do your essays, ECs, etc. show that you have grown personally? UVA has a page on their website that literally tells you what they want from a competitive applicant. Deferred with 4.0 unweighted GPA. I'm really hoping Vtech will come through because I don't think we can afford OOS tuition

Asian and coming out of TJ? If so, very common. Especially if DC is applying to SEAS and eyeing CS as a major.

Yes, we have higher stats/rigor than that and EC's and were also deferred in-state. They seem to have deferred a lot this year anecdotally, in-state especially.
