No, he shouldn’t. It’s the wife’s money.
This is fake. 9th graders don’t have toys. Mom was selfish in moving away. If they both moved, kid could not stay at this school if it’s public. There is no way mom is driving 3 hours round trip twice a day for school drop off. Be real.
Op here. It is real. Toys has a broad meaning that includes any items used for entertainment or pleasure. Even adults can have toys. Grandma's address is on record at the school. And yes, mom drives into the city every day. She still works in the city.
Dad already buys almost everything child needs. And while he has a decent income, most of the money they have comes from his wife's family.
If you are using Grandmom address, and she is not the guardian you are committing residency fraud. This is illegal.

Kid should transfer to the school near dad and she should move closer. Few teens spend that much time with a grandparent. I doubt this is about the Xbox for the kid and more about him wanting more stability and the ability to see his friends. Teens that are social want a lot of socialization — not communing with the frogs on her acreage.
OP didn't say it's just mom lying. OP said the address they are using is grandma's. That could be either grandma, paternal or maternal.
Also, why is Sarah selfish for moving, but David isn't selfish for moving, getting married, AND creating two new children?
Some deep misogyny here.
Also, I'm going to guess that OP is Amy or one of Amy's friends.
You may be right. However, if she had openly posted as the evil stepmother I am quite sure the responses would have been much, much different. There would not be a peep against Sarah and OP would be vilified.
Stepmom has nothing to do with except she's supporting this kid financially.

Just change the address on record and move schools. You can’t have grandma’s address on record if a guardian doesn’t live there. Assuming granny is just that then move the kid and change the records.
Child was picked up by grandmas when young and goes to grandmas after school. Dad didn't want to rock the boat as grandmas were after school child care for both parents. Once mom moved and relationship was strained, dad didn't want to do anything to upset mom further and child still goes to grandmas after school during moms weeks. Mom and child sometimes stay over at grandmas during the week to avoid commute. Dad could change the address but it would cause more conflict.

That IS lying as the child isn't living there.
