Ukrainian refugees moved onto our street and are living hosted by a family in their basement. They have no paperwork at all yet, obviously. The school confirmed via an in-person visit the day they called. Yes, they’re a very sympathetic case, but schools are equipped to handle this.

Schools do know how to handle this. That's why we told the OP to call the school. We on this board are not qualified to crowdsource a solution because we don't actually know how schools handle this situation. Asking here was asking in the wrong place.

If you move in to a home, your child should not have to wait 3 months, or even a week, to start school. Surely there is a way to do this??? This has to happen all the time. How is it that schools don't know how to handle this?

EVERYONE in this city wants to get their kid into the best option. You have money and high expectations and will be very well positioned in three months. In the meantime - sit back here with the proletariat and get what you can get.


Okay, they are not homeless, but if they are permanently moving to the city they should indeed be able to send their kids to school. Why not in bounds?

You should have to file a post-lottery application and go where there are slots. You don’t live in bounds! You won’t for three months! Renting an Airbnb doesn’t make you a resident. And for gods sakes you’re not homeless.

We did a home visit after purchasing our home as we only had the deed and no utility bills (they take at least a month to transfer over). It was done over FaceTime and took maybe 5 mins, but I’m not sure how/if an AirBnB situation could complicate things.
