I’m afraid it’s a bit more serious than that. Most of us are very specialized and even though there is always some movement in and out of private industry, there are not going to be hundreds/thousands of openings all at once. And certainly not all in DC. If I lost my job I have no ilusiones - my salary would be significantly reduced and I’d probably end up getting a law school friend to help me get hired doing doc review at their firm. Would not be pretty.
You’ve had 3 months or more to plan for this. If you aren’t smart enough to figure out a plan B then that’s probably why your job gets axed.
