Outside recess is not the requirement.

My 6th grader got the choice of indoor or outdoor recess. Outdoor recess was on the blacktop only, since it was shoveled/salted.

The school is providing recess, just not in the way you want it. My kids also get home at 4:30, which means school starts later and there’s plenty of time for morning outdoor fresh air w/ family. We also manage an evening walk w the dog and use a flashlight if it’s dark.

Stop asking school to do everything you aren’t doing as a parent. You should try toughening up and getting creative if you’re going to complain about school not doing the same.

Recess does not have to be outdoors. Indoor recess is still recess.

No one in my family is a wimp about this. My children and I go outside together before and after school in all weather except lightning or tornado warnings. Darkness does not prevent us from outdoor activities, and we even do creative outdoor activities in the snow, such as using glow sticks in snow sculptures.

The difference between me taking my children outdoors and the school doing so is that I can have my kids change clothes if they get wet or too cold and I can be sure my kids have on appropriate clothing for the winter. Teachers cannot do that, so they'd have to deal with kids being miserable for the remainder of the day if they get wet.

that's amazing, do you mind sharing what school? I'm about to complain - we're in a high SES school, I'll gladly provide extra boots for the 2% FARMS population in our school. It's really unacceptable that they haven't even shoveled the blacktop.

Yes. They wore hats, gloves and jackets. Besides one child that got a scraped knee they were unscathed.

If they had wet socks they were dry by pickup.

I'm glad they got outside. Lower elem.
