It's a challenge but it's really not that difficult. I just say "quanto" and show them my phone's calculator app and most of the time they understand and put in the price of whatever. Colombia has a big initiative to have kids become relatively fluent in English so most younger Colombians will speak English with you. Many also, at a mall for example, will offer to help if they see you're having translation issues.
