Bright, friendly kids — driven without being sharp-elbowed, social, athletic. Culturally preppy, even if that’s not their aesthetic.

Nice town, good food.

We’ve known a number of Bowdoin kids and they all fit the above.

loved the town and the tour (and the cute hotel right across the street).

our only concern was that my non-outdoorsy and non-sporty kid wouldn't find his people.

Neither of which that lead to any sort of job. May be the worst liberal arts subjects to major in.

Terrible idea, unless you have the money for an engineering masters- then it’s a great idea.

The Maine coast is nicer than almost anywhere else in New England. Pretty nice version of Mississippi

It’s the”Nice” lac. When we were leaving the campus, a random student stopped us and said he hopes we really consider coming and that Bowdoin was awesome! The students genuinely like the community and environment, and it’s a nice place to settle in for college. Also the island research center is amazing and a lot of the people who’ve attended from DC’s school have joined crew, even with no prior experience. It’s a lovely, nice school.

Bowdoin is great. IMO, here is what it is known for:

*Providing a very strong liberal arts education, which means breadth across all subjects. Bowdoin seems to have few weak departments and a lot of strong ones.

*Bowdoin has a reputation for quality of life that seems to exceed other T10 LACs except maybe Pomona. It has happy, friendly, satisfied students.

*Bowdoin is known for offering exceptional food and really good dorms.

*Bowdoin is known for its location. It's not for everybody, but a lot of people love its outdoorsy nature, Brunswick, and proximity to Portland.

One more thing: Bowdoin has the best Fulbright placement of any college or university.

FWIW, my DD and I toured Bowdoin and she was admitted in RD. She really liked Bowdoin but chose a different LAC. Her classmate goes there via Questbridge (he's POC and probably FGLI) and seems to love it.
