NP. So Cal resident. We have Santa Ana winds here. They’re warm gusty winds. It’s so dry here. One cigarette butt, one small flame, can cause a whole canyon to go up in fire.

These winds are so insane. The embers go flying!! It’s hard for people outside of CA to imagine. But our topography of canyons, mountains and hillsides combined with winds combined with dry brush is a terrible combination.

There are trees and bits of people's fences and roofs still flying around into my back yard and onto my own roof. It sounds like a tornado.

Europe is not a desert.

I live on the eastside in LA, way east of the Palisades, and the winds are crazy right now. Trash cans and old Christmas trees are blowing down our street, a car is under a downed branch, and we can see the new fire in the San Gabriel Mountains from our windows. It’s going to be a long night.

There are extremely strong winds there now. Terrible for fire risk.

30-40 mph winds in very dry conditions. (PP who cited climate change is correct)

I live about two hours South (still in SoCal) and I hope + pray 🙏🏽 that my area does not also catch fire.

We have fire warnings issued in my area due to the lack of humidity as well as mass of dry air.

I have seen pictures of the fire in the Palisades…..
Hoping everyone up there is safe and not many homes are lost.

People grabbing their kids from school and trying to evacuate were gridlocked and had to flee on foot with their families. LAFD had to use a bulldozer and clear out the abandoned luxury vehicles:

I had heard of the fires many times but didn't quite understand the situation. Then I went out to LA for business (I'd been to Santa Monica for pleasure many times, but had never driven around LA/Burbank) and I was driven around to different studios and I better understood. Driving through canyons with so much dry vegetation, all covered with houses and buildings. Underneath the dry trees, so much dry long grasses. I can see how once something catches on fire it would be like a chute carrying along the flames.

They do, but only in the summers and there is less reporting on them because the countries are smaller.
