If you only are connected to someone on social media, great; use it to ask for their phone number and/or email. But if you send out a party invitation literally only through Facebook, don’t be shocked when few people respond or show up.

That's your choice! But don't get upset if you're left out of things, then. Sounds like you feel as if you are the gift at any party so you won't be sad not to be included.

I don’t feel “left out” of things that are exclusively planned via social media. That’s as personal and meaningful as getting an invitation from a business or an “influencer.” Not organic or personal. No thanks. Have fun!

I am in my 40s and I use all these apps but no, it's totally inappropriate for work. It's chaotic. Email ONLY for work, or phone if it's a one and done thing if you must. Text is fine for things like "running 5 minutes late" or "do you have the link to the meeting? I'm locked out!"

I have colleagues who use LinkedIn messaging or Instagram or Facebook or worse, ALL THREE! It's one thing if you're reaching out to someone whose email you don't have to say "Hey, here's this thing...my email is this...can you send me yours please?"

I also have students (I'm an academic) who use Canvas messaging exclusively. We do NOT get those to email. It's not a reliable or professional way to communicate. I say this aloud and in the syllabus. And yet, they do it.
