I agree with PP. I'm leaning toward a two week summer vacation with my husband and two kids. Leaning toward Norway and Copenhagen (with a quick trip to the Lego House in Billund). I understand these countries are very expensive to visit, so I'm not yet 100% in. But weather and activity-wise, they seem to be good options.

I just looked into the Lego House in Billund and honestly it didn’t look that great? Mostly custom large lego sets like you’d see at one of the parks and then building areas where you can make something yourself. Didn’t really seem worth the trek from Copenhagen? Happy to be proven wrong!

Yellowstone, Tetons, Mount Rushmore type of road trip if you want to stay in the states.

If this is your only time that you might get 2 weeks and want to do Japan, I'd say do that. We did Japan/Thailand/Hong Kong last summer with 4 kids, two of whom were 6 and 10, and it was amazing. They were totally fine on the flights. The jet lag was way worse for DH and me.

If you can do Japan I would do Japan. You would be fine with the kids , We went with our 10 year old.

Otherwise split time between Norway and UK.

Iceland on the way to or from Scandinavia.

If your husband is responding to stories of pickpockets in Italy and Spain, it’s a totally different vibe in Northern Europe.

I would do 4-5 days in Iceland on the way to Denmark if I were you. Our kids loved Denmark

We did two weeks in Yellowstone and Grand Tetons last summer and it was pretty magical. I would also do the national parks in the pacific northwest. Or as other folks mentioned Norway/Copenhagen/etc.

Iceland would be cool too.

If you're used to DC prices, we didn't think Norway was any more expensive than that. Mainly the flights were the big price tag, but that's true for any destination these days.

Norway/Copenhagen is a great idea.
I also like the Alaska suggestion. You could do one of those land/sea tours and also spend a few days in Vancouver.

Maine or Northern Michigan. Hawaii, but break up flight in Pacific Northwest or San Diego. Italy in August, particularly in a jubilee year wouldn't be my first pick. Finland and Sweden in summer are magic.

Iceland, Denmark/Amsterdam, Norway/Finland, or Canadian Maritimes (we drove and based in New Brunswick, but I think flying to Nova Scotia and visiting PEI would be amazing).

The flight to Japan is fine but Hawaii is too long?? Strange.

Anyway, I like the Iceland idea. I might steal it!
