We recently stayed at the Freehand near Gramercy Park. It had character but was clean and fun. My teen liked it. It was walkable to plenty of places and easy to get on the metro.

I mean like you can walk around the bed, put a suitcase on the floor…not claustrophobic tiny with no window.

We love the Beacon Hotel on the Upper West Side. We stay there because it's close to family who live in the neighborhood, so it might not be convenient for everyone.

I’m the Freehand poster. We went in October and it was WAY more expensive. Hotels have gotten a lot cheaper since then. What happened?

We recently stayed at the Freehand near Gramercy Park. It had character but was clean and fun. My teen liked it. It was walkable to plenty of places and easy to get on the metro.

We just returned from staying in a Sonder down in the financial district, which was less expensive than a hotel room and gave us significantly more space, including two bathrooms. It doesn't feel very neighborhood-y, of course, but the convergence of the subway lines in lower Manhattan makes it easy to get everywhere.

Highlights of my trip with a 17-year-old included live jazz at Smalls (waited too late to make reservations at the Village Vanguard, which was our initial plan), "Gypsy" with Audra McDonald (we were surprised to find tickets available at the TKTS booth), the Whitney, and the Morgan Library, which has an interesting exhibit about Belle Greene, JP Morgan's personal librarian who became director of the library. We also walked to DUMBO via the Brooklyn Bridge on a chilly, sunny morning. Eataly was also popular with my Italy-obsessed foodie.

We have to go for a family memorial event actually. Not relevant to my post as it’ll be a few hours only, but since you asked. We figured we might as well spent a few days and have a bit of fun.

We stayed in Chelsea at the Marriott Courtyard over Christmas and the hotel was freshly renovated, large rooms, good gym, safe (across from the police precinct), and a couple blocks to Penn Station. We visit frequently and didn’t want to be in Midtown this year so we would be more likely to explore other areas. It was a great trip.

I was going to recommend this from its Parker Meridian days, but it's a great location and they've retained the tucked away burger joint inside the hotel that would appeal to some teens.

We did a food walking tour of the lower east side with our teen and she liked it quite a bit - bagels, pizza, falafel, etc. Next time we are doing to do the Little Italy/Chinatown tour.

There are no hotels with large rooms OP

Stay between west and East sides close to a subway stop. Make sure that line works on weekends. Ie meaning between 7th and 5th.

Food with teens get Joes Pizza, Zuckers bagels, and if you want a nicer dinner make reservations at Friend of a Farmer Gramercy Park 77 Irving. Patsys is great for old school Italian. Serphina isn’t as good but teens like it, Starbucks at Empire State Building has clean bathrooms and three stories of fabulous
