I spent a month in Turkey in 2010 and am researching taking my 12 year old. Definitely Istanbul and Cappadocia. I am thinking about a 3 rd stop but don’t know if l can fit it in about 9 days. Maybe Efes or somewhere on the Med coast for a couple days.

I would save Peru for a bit later when your kids can keep up with adults hiking. Bolivia and Ecuador are also great.

Colombia l like but Cartagena is pretty overrun, l suggest Bogota and Zona Cafetera. Yes Santa Marta has beautiful sites around, the town itself doesn’t have much.

Mexico is huge and varied and you could do any number of great trips.

So I would do Columbia or Mexico City. Morocco is your kids are easy. I'd actually save Japan but the ages of your kids would not be horrible.

Here's you prob - everything is so $$ for flights. You can prob find a reasonable Airbnb somewhere but it's the flights that will kill you. Keep that in mind to maybe open options.

And not necessarily London/Paris - my 2 aren't interested at all there. But Italy. Omg they are ready to kids there - hah! I personally never got into London. Paris is better but as an adult. I even studied in Europe and feel this way. There is not one thing about London that would draw me there as a destination over others all things equal. Not that I hate it but there's just so many other holidays to consider. London is easy. So easy that as an adult they can do. I would take them to other locations more interesting. Iceland can be $$ but it's not a long trip.

Quebec City/Montreal is another option. I mean it somewhat depends on the personalities of your family. We like a bit of everything and could never do a Paris where it's all about chocolate and shopping, I love it but my family could not do that for a wk. I mean I did Paris 3x in a yr and more than that in my life and know it well. The only way to do it is to base on Paris and see Mt St Michele and explore via day trips. I think it'll be too $$ that way.

I get why you'd avoid Europe and would focus on S America.

Oman. Wahiba Sands. Nizwa. Some beach time. Great soft adventure with luxury options.

Agree with this, although you could also do the highlands (Cocora valley, Armenia) instead of Santa Marta.

places on our bucket list with kids and we are always seeking a good prix/qualite ratio (luxury is not important to us, however, but comfort and convenience are)

japan--if you can use miles or find cheap flights, doable
mexico city--10k would get you a really nice trip
colombia--I want to go, DH still thinks about 1980s drug lore and is worried
peru--cusco, sacred valley and one of the trails to macchu picchu
buenos aires, wine country and iguazu falls
hawaii--probably more than 10k

US: utah national parks; yellowstone; oregon coast down to san francisco; california from LA to mendocino.


and then in europe--all over really though we have been to france, italy, austria, hungary and germany.

slovenia, slovakia, croatia, ireland, spain, portugal, and london still on the list.

How much of Mexico have you seen? You mention it like you’ve seen the entire country.

If you want luxury hotels, you could go to Thailand as those are relatively cheap there and day to day life is also fairly inexpensive so if you can get good flights you will be within 10K budget.

Japan. Dollar is strong. The luxury will be more minimalist but service and food good and affordable. Don’t need to worry as much about what you drink/eat as water is safe. Culture amazing. Spring break is late this year so rare opportunity to get to Japan in mid-April.
