Building on the above - I would do Hilton Head, which gives you the option of Savannah, Beaufort or Charleston, if you are up to it, but has many nice beach places and pretty good restaurants on its own, if you aren't.

Thanks for all of the recommendations so far. We have been so busy taking care of him and worrying about him and his needs that it is odd to try to think of ourselves. I will def check out the recommendations you've all given
