DC minimum wage is $17.50 because baristas are not tipped employed usually. Coffee isn't grown in America and subject to tariffs and import taxes. Rent, utilities, insurance, it all adds up

$4 is not that bad. Otherwise you will brew it yourself. But good beans and equipment can be pricey

I pay $3.81 for a grande pike (16oz) at Starbucks. They have this fancy machine that grinds the beans and makes each cup individually. It’s pretty beefy which is how I like it.

Nobody pays for drip coffee at Panera because everyone has a $5 month or free trial of their sip club, which is unlimited self-serve drip coffee. Their coffee is super acidic, to me. Not worth it even for free.

I've gotten my large cup of drip coffee comp'ed twice recently. First time at a Panera in Tampa, second time at a gas station in central Virginia. I didn't ask, they just gave it to me for free. Maybe I look like I'm desperately in need of coffee.

No, it’s not. And those cups they use make it smell like burnt plastic. Absolutely vile.

Love McDonald coffee. Starbucks tastes so bitter to me. I make my own at home using Peet’s which I get for under $10 a bag.

There is a really charming cafe near our lake cottage that still has $1.50 small coffees and it’s really good coffee.
