Proving the point that high percentages of ED applicants is a private school thing. Not everyone EDs. But it will feel like it if you are at a private. And maybe colleges expect you to ED and will hold it against you. We are public. We applied for financial aid. I don’t think schools will hold it against my kid that he didn’t ED. Only the very rich and very poor can afford to do that.

Probably less than that at our school. Maybe 50 to 60 percent.

My first kid didn’t do ED because she doesn’t have any dream school and we weren’t ready to full pay for a school she wasn’t sure about. She got into several great school in RD and it’s much easier to choose one that fits her. Second one has a dream school so we’ll have him apply ED.

Mine has RD’d to 5 reaches, including a few ivies. Did not ED anywhere. EA’d to safeties and targets the we visited and she loved. Has gotten into all she’s heard from (with great merit) and is happy with all 3 options so far. My kid doesn’t think she’s too good for any of the schools she applied to. She’s be happy to attend any of them. That’s why she applied.

My unhooked kid (same great GPA everyone seems to have) only applied RD last year -- DC wasn't 100% sure where they'd want to be. They got into UCs (incl Cal but not UCLA), CSUs, GW, two Ivies, a few European schools. Obvs they didn't get in everywhere, but it worked out fine and DC is very happy where they ended up.

Most admissions are during RD.


Which includes all the kids who did ED and didn't get in to the ED schools.

Agree. This is very much what our first kid's results were like, which is pretty much exactly what our college counselor said would happen at these schools if he didn't ED to them. Our other kids did ED to high matches and got in.

My kid ED'ed last year, but lots of her friends went RD and did very well. I was surprised actually at all the great acceptances in RD, after hearing that ED was THE way to go.
