Cornwall is very close and great. I went to Oxford so would focus on something else but it’s a cute city (for a day, max).

If i were going to the UK for 9 days I'd do Manchester or the Cotswolds.

Rather than another city, or Ireland, do some towns, villages, and countryside in England. Those are what make England England. The Lake District maybe, or Cambridge and the environs, or Oxford, or Bath, or Hadrian’s Wall. It misses the point of England to only see London.

I would move around but if you’ve already done Paris I’m sure there’s other fun stuff to do by train and that would be my personal preference.

It will be dark and damp, no point going anywhere that is only pretty in summer, like Hampton Court Palace, Cotwolds etc. Just swap out for another city like York or Edinburgh or Berlin / Amsterdam.

+1 Cotswold.

My spouse if British, and we've been to England several times. IMO, the best part of England is outside of London.

This is a cool idea.

I would never choose to spend that much time in London.

Did London & Edinburgh.

Another year, London & Oxford.

Fun contrasts.

Buen viaje.

We split a recent trip between London and Bath and it worked out great (this is a family of four, parents and two teens). We also considered London and the Oxford area which would have been a good choice too imo. We've looked back on our trip many times and felt the Bath portion was as great as the London, so no regrets.

This is what we did, but only 2-3 days in each so wished we had spent more time. The kids loved the train.

Try Scotland. Check if you can fly home from there directly.
