I have a family member who is on morphine - for last 5 days. Its a torture to watch her everyday like this aslep with nothing except meds going in her.
Anyone else experienced this? How long before they passed?
She hadn't eaten from even 4/5 days before that.

My own parent passed much more quickly in this scenario-but I think if she is being kept comfortable and family is around, it's the best you can hope for, and she will pass soon. I would think today or tomorrow.

Be sure to take care of YOU. Your mental health. Is there a hospice counselor available to speak to you? That might be comforting to you. I'm sorry about the situation.

She has no bags, just the med is administered into the vein.

I think you are wrong. Fluids go in the IV. That's why there is a bag.

Op here.

She is 80 years old.
The hospice care is given in the hospital. They said cant send home in this condition , which we agree with.
Yes been given the meds only, no drops of water as she is asleep and also will aspirate her and choke.
Been 7 days since last had sip of water.
At this point we want it to come faster everyday is a torture watching her go through this.

Is this code? Because I want to convey this code when I am in this state. Planning ahead. Which more people should do.

Yes. I've talked to nurses who say some nurses will dial up the meds quicker.

Yes, I said as much in another thread and was called a liar. They 100% will do this. Hopefully, they will do it with permission and not without permission as was done to us.

Why do you think they did it? Was he in pain? Had he made the request and had it documented? Was there a possibility he could have recovered? Or were you just not ready to let him go?

Yes. The nurse killed my dad. I’ve talked about it before here.

In our case, it was not what we wanted. But that is basically what morphine does but no one wants to admit it because then it might be made illegal.

Doubt they killed him. What did he want?

In a hospital setting when the patient is suffering and there is no possibility of patient recovering, the meds can be dialed up.

I don't think Hospice nurses in a patient's home have as much leeway. I don't know anything re: a Hospice home/facility.

They lasted 4-5 days without water. However, even tiny amounts of water prolong their suffering.

As I understand it, the water can cause them to aspirate because they no longer have the ability to swallow.
