I bike to work. Why don't you bike to work, OP? You're just adding to traffic congestion and using up electricity. Are you just lazy?

I just car shopped a couple of months ago. The price may be way down but they are still significantly more expensive than a gas powered vehicle which puts them out of reach for many. Add to that the difficulty of getting a mechanic and the difficulty of road trips and the need for a charging station at your house and it’s pretty obvious why people are not running to get them.

The vehicle package we bought had a $20k difference between hybrid and gas powered along with a several month wait.

We don't need any reason and we do not owe you any.

We will eventually buy an electric and or hybrid, and we purposely installed the electrical to make it happen during a recent reno, but our mid-2010s Hondas are doing well and I'm going to run them as long as is realistic. That's the environmentally-friendly thing to do.

In the decade or next phase of life, we’re good EV candidates. But for now it does not work for us nor does it make sense to trade in well maintained, working vehicles. We walk, bike, and use Metro more than most people, so I don’t really care what OP thinks.

Prices are not down enough to justify switching our 2010 compact VW Golf for an electric. It has less than 50k miles and it mainly is used to get to/from the Metro a few times a week. It has no mechanical issues and should continue to function as a “station car” for years to come.

Our other car is a 3 row SUV for car pooling. Around town our mileage is low since our kids walk to school and walk or bike to roughly 1/2 of their activities - so it would seem we’re good candidates for an EV. However, we both have elderly parents 225-300 miles away and we’re entering the phase of life when we have to drop everything and drive to them to deal with a fall or a trip to the ER. Stopping for a quick partial charge when we’re going for a visit is a good excuse to grab a coffee and stretch our legs. Stopping when a Dr is calling from the hospital with updates or finding a way to charge the car when staying at a hotel next to their rehab center is added stress I don’t need.

Doubt I would ever drive one. Prefer gas car. Also SUV. No reason for an electric car now. They do next to nothing for the environment. They make people feel better but provide no benefit.

Because the market for affordable electric cars are:

Chevy - Unreliable
Hyundai - Unreliable
Nissan - Unreliable and TINY
Mini - TINY
Tesla - Well, you know...

I keep my cars for 15-20 years and we are not rich. All of these brands are pretty anemic quality wise, and their commitment to electric cars is uncertain.

I did the calculation of how much our hybrid uses compared to an electric assuming we powered by natural gas, and it's about 30% more green house gas.

We can talk when business people aren't flying cross country in corporate jets for handshake meetings.

cross country commercial flight: 0.5 tons Co2 round trip

annual hybrid commute: 4 tons.

Lets convert all those business travelers flying twice a month to Zoom meetings.

Heck lets make my job a zoom meeting and my emissions will plummet.

I have one, but the charging is a pain if you don't have a charger at home, or if you are on road trip. I honestly would rather have a hybrid next time.

I can't afford a car or to pay for parking. But I think not having a car at all is better for the environment than having an electric one, so I'm fine with not having an electric car.
