The CogAT V is weird, since it's entirely picture based, and some kids are thrown off by the pictures. After the test, both of my kids said that they weren't sure what the pictures were supposed to be. The committee knows that this can be an issue, and that's why they look at all of the data holistically.

My kid had a 140 VQN with a 113 V. He also had 99th percentile reading iready scores, was in the top reading group, and had great writing samples submitted by the school. He was admitted into AAP and had no trouble whatsoever with the AAP language arts.

I remember the AART told us that the kids will be rated against their peers in the school so it's all relative. A 120 V may be high for a school and a 130 V may be low for another.

His vallss was fine (690, I think?) but not great. 120 verbal is lower than my other two kids who got in, so I guess seems low?

His iReady in the spring was 580 for reading. I just think he’d be an easy case to say he needs advanced math, but not LA. But what do I know?

I am betting he will not be level 4 accepted. I think he should be level 4 (comparing him to my AAP daughters) but I don’t think his numbers demonstrate that. But really, it’s anyone’s guess

You think your son will not be accepted because of lower verbal? I thought 120 is a decent score? Was VASSLL not great too?

They are using 1st grade spring iready reading?

I don’t know, but doubt it. My point was just that he should probably be in level 4, but likely won’t be
