Agree. Bowdoin is very hot right now. Kids know the academics are on par with other slacs and want the good good and dorms. We loved it after visiting (but ultimately decided it was a little too far).

They’re just driving up applications for the sake of rankings. DC is being spammed just as much from Bowdoin, Williams, and Swarthmore.

Define "near"...We lived in Augusta (20 minutes to Colby) and the loaf is about 90 minutes away.

Real skiers would of course go to Middlebury but all the Maine schools are close enough. What do you mean by “real skiers”? Sure, proximity to the snow bowl is good; but Sugarloaf has hosted a World Cup race and the US Nationals many times. Lots of real skiers would chose to ski there instead. YMMV

“Near” is relative. It’s an hour +. However, Sugarloaf is Colby’s home mountain & the team trains there.
Bates is about 1.25 hrs to Sunday River & just under 2 hrs to sugarloaf.
Bowdoin is 1hr 45 min to SR & 2 hrs to SL.

Health? Business? Why is he considering liberal arts colleges at all? Those are not liberal arts subjects and will not be well represented.
I went to a liberal arts school and we had both a PT/OT program and a business major. He's a sophomore, has not really figured everything out yet.
At none of these liberal arts colleges are these programs offered. Those just aren’t liberal arts subjects.

Middlebury is much easier to get into than Bowdoin.
Midd takes up to 80% of its class ED now, which translates to about a 40% acceptance rate. Bowdoin's ED acceptance rate last year dropped to 17%, and that includes recruited athletes. If talking about ED, Midd is a far easier admit. The RD admit rates are closer, but Bowdoin's drops every year: 7% last year vs. Midd 12%.
Bowdoin’s acceptance rate is lower because it’s a much smaller school and they draw roughly the same number of applicants. Colby has a very low acceptance rate because they’ve driven up application numbers by making it free to apply. When you look at the stats of incoming students, they’re very similar, with Bowdoin having a slight edge in recent years.

They take a decent amount rd due to their low yield however! I also respect that they want a school that’s filled with peers that want to attend middlebury. It must make for an amazing campus community where at other schools, especially lacs, it may be students 2nd, 3rd, or even last choice.
