You should ask for your money back! What is it, $50-60k a year and they gave your kid some minuses that prevented him from getting into the college of his choice? Outrage!

I can't tell if you are being sarcastic or not but honestly, it's kind of annoying. This kid would have a 4.0uw in MCPS (both because the grading is so much easier--I've had a senior at both) and because the grading scale itself requires a 94 for an A.

Straight As include A-.

Yes A- would be considered “straight A’s” — it’s worth 4 points. Same as an A+ at our school.

My DD got straight A grades all of 7th grade thru 10th and she's had the odd B for a semester here and there which ultimately hasn't affected her GPA. So I call her a "straight A or almost straight A" student.

To me, it’s the highest grade possible in every class, be that an A or an A+. 4.0.

But I’m not in college admissions.

When I threw a brown egg at the wall it cracked, so things that are brown must break easily.

Dude, I'm just sharing my kid's experience. No need make fun of me.

NP. First child to go through the process? There is zero reason for you to assume that your child’s A minuses had any impact on the success of their ED application. PP made an apt comparison that you may even find amusing down the road.

But but how could colleges have glossed over the fact that the kid went to a “big 3”

Ha ha. This made my day. Perfect response to a nitwit poster

4.0 = straight As

MCPS doesn't have + or - . An A is an A, and honestly, that seems more logical than counting A and A+ as an A, but not A-. Where would be the logic of that? If you wanted to isolate the A and A+, instead of calling is straight As (which should include ALL types of As), you should refer to it as a 4+ gpa, because that's what it actually means.

It bugs me that people aren't accurate.

Depends on your school district. We are in FCPS. We have minus and plus. Straight As is As not A- it’s a 4.0. We used to be in Arlington. There, an A can be a 90. Not in FCPS. You need 93.

I got all As and one A- one semester in law school. Damn right I told my parents I got straight As.

I'd count an A- as an A, but my high school didn't count pluses and minuses differently for calculating GPA, so that might color my perception.
