Husband is opposed to it, although he knows our DS drinks when he goes out and at college.

Husband doesn't drink.

Thanks

We are social drinkers so we don't mind our boys to have a drink when home, but I agree with your husband. For example, my husband doesn't have earrings or tattoos so our boys know not to get any until they are respectfully out of the home...

Follow DH's rules.

We only drink a countable number of drinks per year, 1 or 2 in front of our kids.

Parental example is very tied to outcomes.

Alcohol is a highly optional part of life and is not needed to have fun. Many beverages are equally refreshing.

We allow our 19 year old to have a drink or two at home but I agree with PP, follow DH's rules "house rules".

What's the point? If he were with a big group of family and everyone was having a beer, I guess I wouldn't think it was a huge deal. But if nobody else is drinking, yes, it seems weird to buy beer so your underage kid can drink it. It is totally possible to enjoy a game without alcohol.

Not illegal for under 21 to drink in the home with parents, at least in MD.

I don't have a problem with 19 yr old having a beer at home, or 16 yr old drinking champagne for like NYE celebration. I know my 19 yr old drinks at college. And I am not a drinker, at all.

But, to be respectful of your DH, I would say no, however, I would ask why your DH is against it. If he knows your DS is drinking in college, and he is an otherwise good person and gets good grades, what is the issue?

As stated, in many states, it is not illegal for < 21 to drink in the home. so, why is your DH against it?

IMO, if you teach your kid to drink responsibly, there is less likelihood of your kid over indulging.

This can only be true if you think things are more fun when buzzed.

To me, things are the same amount of fun when I'm buzzed. I just lose motor coordination and can't drive.
good for you.

Some like a buzz. Some like the taste. Some like both.

Bunch of Puritans in here.

Actually yes. I am descended from Puritans, a Women's Christian Temperance Union activist, and a severely alcoholic deadbeat dad (many generations ago).

Who is he watching the football game with? Just your DH, who doesn't drink? Friends? Other relatives?

At that age, I'd be fine with a social beer in a group of family/friends. If the DS needs a beer to enjoy the game even though he's only hanging out with Dad who doesn't drink, or watching by himself, that seems problematic.

I've let my DS (18) drink with our family in moderation. He's proven he can have a few beers on vacation or during special occasions so I don't see why not especially if he's drinking at college.

C'mon -- you gotta have more than 2 fingers?
Surely you can count to 10 at least?

That moderation myth has been debunked. Only liquor industry and alcoholics are sticking to it.

No, it has not.
