A lot of women marry for money and lifestyle. It’s not at all uncommon. And often why you see less attractive men with more attractive women.

Because women generally don’t marry down unless they’re is something wrong with them. Women can be picky because they usually hold all the cards and because they can carry a baby. A woman who marries down is either settling because they can’t have anyone else or they’re highly independent.

I wonder if the context of the "joke" was OP saying "boy, my sister makes a lot more money than you!!!" and the boyfriend awkwardly responded "haha yeah, maybe I should be a SAHD" to diffuse tension.

A teacher would actually make a great SAHD. Nothing wrong with that. It also looks like your sister is dating someone who cares more about personality, not just the looks. If it was some kind of crook or an illegal immigrant, I'd understand your worry... but a teacher... nope, stay in your own lane.

Define "high-earner". Nobody is gold-digging that $500k/yr lifestyle.

Plenty of average looking people marry and have families and live happily ever after. We can’t all look like supermodels.

There is nothing about one joke that means he is a gold digger. He is a teacher, not a deadbeat.

Do they enjoy similar activities, do they laugh at the same jokes, do they have similar values systems? It is totally bizarre that you think your sister is unworthy of love because she is unattractive. Look around — lots of people that are not conventionally attractive find love and get married.

I make a lot more money than my husband and we have been happily married for almost 20 years. He has always had more flexibility for kid stuff and that has been great for my career. It is all OUR money, but he didn’t marry me for it. While I was a high income earner before meeting him, I could not have kept up the promotions, etc and had kids without his full support. He is an amazing husband and father. We have a great time, enjoy the same sense of humor, like to do lots of different activities together, love to travel, like to learn new things, etc.

You seem super judgmental. Just take a big step back and observe their interactions. Maybe they are having a great time and planning a great life together.

She quickly divorced him, not that there’s anything wrong with him as a person.

So in your opinion and possibly observation your sister has very few options of marriageable men who are interested in her for any reason and yet you want to sabotage the one she has and seems happy with? You must have a very low opinion of her ability to figure things out and make her own choices. If she's such a dunce how did she acquire this high paying career?

I am entirely confident the former Mrs. Bezos has an absolute phalanx of lawyers making sure that teacher can’t exploit her. If OP is worried she should certainly advise her sister in protecting herself but not suggest IN ANY WAY this is to do with her looks.
