Thanks for all these replies. Yes, we looked at Barrie a couple of years ago but, while it's Montessori, we didn't get the impression that it really fed kids' curiosity. VA is just too far. Sad to hear about Feynman.
If there are any further thoughts on Norwood, Green Acres, and Lowell for 2e, I'd welcome those!

Basis is rigorous academically, no doubt, but do they support learning differences - accommodations of any kind, LD specialists on staff? Do you know any ND families there?

Have you looked at the public MCPS 2e program? I don't think it's the best because it really doesn't help kids focus on their strengths -class sizes are too big (regular size) -but it does help them take normal accelerated classes with support so they don't have to go down a level to get the support. In other schools the administration often aggressively tells your child to go down a level if your child needs support and that may not be appropriate.

I know you said Moco or close in DC but NYSmith and Basis Mclean are good places to consider. You might want to tour them to see what they offer and compare them to schools that are closer to you.

Yep. 2E schools are non existent here. Lots of us are homeschooling, by default.

Another head nodding here. And considering homeschooling. It's tough with no good options despite many good schools.

Norwood is a very good but very traditional school. I'm not sure they differentiate but the teachers are supposed to be nice and understanding especially since it only goes up to 8.

This is completely terrible, I really feel for the families who may not even get tuition refund. I went to their info session last summer, nothing hinted at lack of continuity.
