All of these schools are great options! OP, I'm so sorry for you and all the families who are affected by the decision.

Another option - albeit a costly one - your child's teachers are suddenly out of a job as well. Maybe with a couple of other parents you can hire one to essentially home school your children for the remainder of the school year while they look for a job and you look for a new school for September. It buys everyone time to find the right next fit instead of just the immediate opening.

What about Grace Episcopal? They often have spaces.

As for a lawsuit, I'm sure there are enough lawyer parents inn this community that they could go pro se.

Unfortunately, it's hard to know what to do or if this is even a feasible option when the school won't even address whether families who paid tuition up front get reimbursed for the education their child or children didn't receive. They need that money to pay for these other private or parochial schools.

The school has not answered questions from parents about any reimbursements. Some parents paid in full for the entire year. Some parents have paid some payments. Tax forms show they had assets in June 2023. Yes, abrupt closure, but they have not told parents anything about how they’re handling what remains, what obligations are owing. They need to be more transparent or someone will sue them. They should not be able to just close with one week’s notice and no information about any potential reimbursements.

So, let me get this right…you are going to pay a lawyer (because no decent attorney is going to do this on some kind of contingency basis) to sue the administration which, almost obviously, has no money. The school is, after all, closing abruptly. Guessing it’s not because they have so much cash that there are disagreements on how to use it.

The best (highly unlikely) case scenario, is that there are acruelly assets (even though they don’t have real estate), and you somehow force them into bankruptcy. Each parent becomes a creditor and is inevitably subordinated to other creditors.

Unless they conclude that there was a Madoff-like absconding of funds, you ain’t getting money.

Breach of contract lawsuit on behalf of multiple families. Zero transparency around current cash means possible funds available for some reimbursements.

I hope families have tuition insurance. This is why it’s important, you just never know what might happen. Sorry you all are going through this with such little notice.
