Back to the OPs question it’s not worth transferring to JMU if you are otherwise happy at CNU. Potentially worth it to transfer to Tech or UVA depending on major.

When did CNU stop being a community college for working adults? This thread is weird.

I don't consider either to be especially "prestigious", to the extent that characteristic is important for anything. In the region, JMU may be better known, but that's not the same as being considered notably more academically rigorous or difficult to gain admission to. Between the two, I'd vote for the one which offers the most suitable courses for the student's interests. Doing well academically at either institution will probably lead to very similar outcomes after graduation, whether in terms of employment opportunities, or in terms of admission to graduate education.

Prestige is fake.

I’m in my mid 40s and on hiring committees at DOJ but don’t yet have kids applying to college. I clicked on this thread because I wanted to see what CNU is. I haven’t heard of it. I obviously know what JMU is. I’m a Virginia native.

No of course not. JMU doesn't have any more prestige than CNU or ANY other VA school. Come on!

When I went to college in the mid 90’s, JMU was considered a step down from UVA (Just missed UVA) and no one had heard of CMU. I lived in NoVA, so maybe kids in the Va Beach area applied there?

JMU has decent name recognition in Philly and NYC. Random person on the street in Dallas or Denver has not heard of either.

JMU is generally perceived as a better school but I wouldn’t transfer for that reason alone it’s not like it’s UVA or something
