When?
Last year (2023) there was a nationwide cogat testing glitch at original oct. testing date. The cogat was postponed, and in some school the actual test date was not communicated until 1 day before, there was lot of drama. So last year the cogat score and in-pool notification came out the last day of Fall semester (12/15/23). AART told every family just submit family referral regardless your child is in-pool or not.
So last year wasn't a good indicator, and just sit tight.
Your school told you the dates? Our school said it would be in October and they would tell us the before the exact dates so that attendance and being well rested could be prioritized. No notification. We learned from our child on the last day of testing that it ended. He was sick and hardly sleeping the first two days. Not expecting a good score...
God no, my school never told me. My kid told me the day before, when I told him he's supposed to go to dentist the next day. "But mommy, we are having a test tomorrow."
The school telling you that the test is in October is telling you.
I remember when my older kid was in second grade, I knew the test was coming up and I ordered a book. The book came and when I tried to look at the book with DS, he was familiar with it because he took the test at school a dew days prior.
I didn’t realize the cogat was 3 days. I don’t know if it was always 3 days. My third and youngest child is in currently in second grade.
We do get a Friday newsletter. I don’t always open them. I bet the dates would be on there. I remember one of the ones I opened back in September said they would be doing iready. They have a weekly schedule and what they are working on in each subject.
PP, I am talking about 2023, when Cogat had a national testing glitch that cancelled Oct. testing date. The school said they'll let us know the new test date pending CogAT availability but they never told us. You don't think we look for all the possible communications? You DS probably was a few years older and your experience wasn't the same as 2023, which was an outlier.

I'm most annoyed that they said they would tell us closer to the days the exact days but then did not. If I didn't think an announcement was coming I could have given soft warnings on what he could expect.
It's fine and will be what it will be. I just wish there were more consistency/transparency.

DP here. We were told mid October and they took it a week early. I know the teacher was going over some questions and test format immediately before the actual test. Parents were all surprised the test happened early.
I’m not sure what you think the notice would do for your child.
My oldest kid was sick as a dog and barely made it to school for his PSAT. It is what it is. He missed 2 days of school that week home sick.
Immediately as in day of? At our school it was always same week, but not day of. We were given a window by our school, and then close to the date the actual date so kids didn't miss. But you knew because your kid came home talking about practicing test questions.
