Washu is more pre-md/phd

Than Emory? Definitely false. Lots of kids pick Emory for proximity to the CDC.

Not sure how you can believe this. Im confident Washu has a much higher % of premed students. Sure there’s the cdc, but I doubt that’s the difference maker in magnitude lol. You can also check LinkedIn and see the difference. Emory’s business school is also double the size of WashU’s.

Your confidence is misplaced, 20 percent of students apply to medical school from both Emory and Wash U.

Not that I don’t believe you but do you have a source? According to Emory’s own website, 350 applied in 2023. Emory’s average class size is around 2000. That’s not 20%. https://prehealth.emory.edu/outcomes.html

Their matriculation rate of 65% is also lower than WashU’s

https://www.emorywheel.com/article/2023/05/as-emorys-school-of-medicine-acceptance-deadline-approaches-students-report-competitive-admissions-process

I guess they rounded up in the article by saying “about 1/5th”? Still, 65% vs 85%? Washu is clearly more pre-md

Honestly, I don’t really care. The lengths the Wash U/Tufts/Emory parents go to distinguish their school from one of the others is quite ridiculous. They are all very similar schools, and no dog in this fight as my kids don’t attend any of them.

I was just responding to an inaccurate claim with some numbers. “Lengths” is actually funny. Anyway, the three are demonstrably different and if you had kids at any of them or attended one, you’d actually have a different opinion.

Dcum is desperate to pair the two schools for some reason.

Because they are peer schools with similar attributes. That’s the reason.

Lots of kids apply to Emory and Tufts (including both my kids and several of their friends). In or near great cities, in that "sweet spot" in terms of undergraduate size, and attract very bright, motivated kids but not cutthroat. Sure, there are probably some pre-MBA types that are much more attracted to Emory than Tufts and some kids interested in International Relations who are more interested in Tufts than Emory, but it's not as if you can't get a solid education in almost anything at either school and in terms of "vibes" they have a lot of similarities.

Anonymous wrote:Only know kids who applied ED1 because of generous acceptance rate. But seems to overlap with Wash U and Tufts, other semi-urban schools of similar size where sports are mediocre.

I doubt anyone is proactively applying to these schools because sports are mediocre...they are D3 schools, so that's life. 2/3 of D1 schools have mediocre sports as well, though again, I don't know many kids applying to Farleigh Dickinson or Fordham or even most Ivy schools nowadays because of the sports culture (quite apart from the athletes participating in the sports).

The fact is that 99% of all schools have essentially mediocre sports...but of course kids like to attend the Power 4 schools (and even then a subset) for the sports culture.
