Subject: “Mom/Dad says it’s too cold to play outside right now” .. what temperatures do you allow kids out to play?
The DMV doesn’t get temperatures that are too cold IMO. It’s a matter of whether the kids want to be out in it. I think it’s unpleasant once you get below freezing but my kid doesn’t care and will try to take his jacket off in that weather.

I did too. Seriously even at 30 below zero, my mom would bundle us up and put us out. It's fine.

We moved to a new neighborhood and the kids here played outside everyday until the weather got cooler. They would run door to door to see who could play. Should I not be sending my kids out with jackets and gloves when it’s cooler? It seems other parents do not let kids out in this weather in the neighborhood.
What’s reasonable for weather? It hasn’t been cooler than 40s and I expect it will get colder as winter comes about. Does playing outside stop when this weather comes?

I send my kids outside if it’s above zero. If they get cold, they will come in. If they are outside playing, others will come out.
But yes - people around here think under fifty means it’s cold. So there will be less playing outside.
Perhaps the kids are blaming the weather but, don't want to play with op's kids? And not 'all people' think that below 50 is too cold to play!

Why does dcum always think playing with the neighborhood kids is expecting childcare? It's just normal, being a kid fun.
Honestly I find both sides of this weird. Playing with kids in the neighborhood isn't childcare, but it's also not something the other kids are obligated to do if they don't want to because it's cold.

Kids should be playing outside, rain or shine, -20 or 99, every day for at least four hours. It’s very unhealthy to be inside and on screens.
