I don't have much patience for all the filler time at public school. The school day is too long, the school year is too long. So much of the time is spent doing busy work or filler activities. I guess it is just to supervise kids who would get in trouble if they only had to go to school 5 hours instead of 7?

Anyway, my kids are smart and get all A's in honors classes. If they tell me nothing is going on a particular day and they prefer to stay home, I allow it. If their grades were poor or they took advantage of this, I'd rethink but it has not been an issue so far and they are in high school.

OP: my kid goes to school, unless she’s sick. We do plenty of fun things as a family over the weekend and during school breaks.

It’s a vicious cycle. Once a critical mass of kids are missing school (like this week) it’s really a drag for the kids who go to school because no new material or activities are done. It’s all just filler because the teachers don’t want to have to redo it all.

OP I leave it up to my kids. My 11th grader is going the full day tomorrow and my 8th grader is going a half day.
