Yes, this is what I'm thinking too...

For pickups... I would lean into chic loungewear and dress it up with some clean, on-trend sneakers and gold jewelry.
You don't have to wear ugly business casual pants to pick up your kids.

For school events, I guess it depends, but some black wide leg cashmere pants, crisp button down, and suede sneakers could look very presentable.

Also, there are wide-leg jeans that wear more like trousers than jeans... might be worth looking into.

These pants are super comfy, are well made (thick fabric, a bit stretchy without shine, they hold their shape), and feel elevated from leggings. I wear them for work stuff with button downs or nice sweaters (could pair with blazer if I that). I tend to wear chelsea boots or leather trainers on bottom. They are more expensive than some options mentioned but they’re in such regular rotation I got my money’s worth.

Marine layer Allison pants are comfortable and look good. Vuori also has some good options.

I don’t care for elastic waist cotton pants, they poof out in all the wrong places. A stretch waist CAN make pants more comfortable especially when sitting down. I find mid-rise more comfortable than a high rise. I do not care for the cropped leg (culotte style). Makes the leg line short,short,short.

I like where you’re going here. I’m not OP but I also hate hard pants and am in a yoga pants rut. The only issue I see is that I only think short skirts work with black tights - a midi skirt would look frumpy to me. I’d love this concept with skirts above the knee. I’m 42 and probably have dated taste though.

I just tried these and I couldn't do it. They just seemed like cheap poly pants with an elastic waist like the kind my grandmother wore in the 90’s when she couldn’t do real waistbands any more.

I got a pair of pants from Vuori that are comfortable and look nice.

Oh wow you all came through! Taking a look at the options. I am not big but my stomach is post kids and just accumulates there so pants are so tight and then others look weird like an inverted triangle. Looking through now!
