How is it outdated? It's your natural nail (not an extension) and looks just like regular polish.

NP- my nails peel as well. I think it’s from chronic nail biting through my 20s, coupled with weakened nails in menopause.

And you’re wrong.

Gel lasts me about 10 days. If I get it before a weekend event it usually looks nice the following weekend as well.

Bonus is it’ll keep your nails nice and strong. Lasts longer than gel. Gel begins to peel as early as 2 weeks (sometimes quicker). Never made my nails thinner but I hate having peels/chips.

Lots more colors with dip these days too.

I'm not in the area anymore so unfortunately can't recommend a salon. The service is often called a "structured gel manicure" because the overlay gives structure to the nail but there's no extension.

Typically builder gel is a softer more flexible gel that can be soaked off with acetone to be removed completely (like the Luminary my salon uses) but I believe some brands/products are harder so it has to be filed off to be removed completely. I think that's the distinction between "soft gel" and "hard gel" but it's kind of confusing.

I've been getting the Luminary gel for a year and she's never had to remove it completely and start over, she said she'd only do that if I waited a really long time between fills or if I had a lot of lifting. She leaves a thin layer and applies new gel on top. Sooo much better than gel polish manicures where they would always buff/drill the nail before every single application which turned my nails to paper they were so thin.

Lasts 3+ weeks (like others, I get it redone because my nails get too long; the dip powder rarely chips)

My nails aren't ruined by it like they were with gel manicures. I've been getting dip manicures every 3-4 weeks for a year and my nails are perfectly healthy.

My nails grow slower in the winter, so I can get about three weeks between visits during the colder months, and two in the warmer
