We go long because we build in a lot of denominational holidays that other school districts around the country don’t. We have to add in days for the Jewish holidays, Muslim, and Hindu holidays in our calendar. This stretches us further into the year to hit the required seat hours.

Did you even look at the sample calendar? There’s still a summer break, it’s just 5-6 weeks instead of 8+.
Yes, but I much prefer a longer summer break that makes it easier to coordinate and travel with family in other districts.
The year round calendar had the majority of summer break in June with school restarting in mid July. Not ideal in any way.
Consider how miserably hot July and August are and how little you can actually be outside for a lot of the day during those months. Now add 2 weeks off in late September, 2 weeks in April for spring break and a 3 week break in December/January. Such a no brainer for me. So many more opportunities to enjoy time off vs 8+ weeks in 103 degree heat. I think it will be very popular with many families and staff.

You cannot be serious. That’s when you go to the pool, the beach, vacation, etc.
As I’ve repeatedly said, there is still a 5-6 week summer break. You can do all of that then AND enjoy time off throughout the year in nicer months in more restful chunks of time with the balanced year round calendar.
5-6 weeks is not much time for HS kids to work or complete an internship or residential academic program. Never mind fun things like summer swim team. HS fall sports & marching band start practice 3-4 weeks before school begins. So I guess all of those kids get 1-2 weeks of summer before that starts?
What you just described would be a fully packed summer whether it was 6 weeks or 8. You’re being ridiculous.

More consolidated days off vs these random one off holidays that create short choppy weeks and aren’t really usable for any kind of travel. Summer is increasingly too hot to be enjoyable so I like the idea of a 5-6 week summer break with more weeks off throughout the year when the weather is better and you could actually travel.
There’s a significant number of families in LCPS who take extended trips to their home countries in the fall-winter and the 2/3 week end of quarter intermission breaks would make that more feasible without missing 2-3 weeks of school. I really really like the idea.
The options for 26-27- meh. The one I truly hated was the one that had kids starting August 4 and teachers in July. The other options were satisfactory but that one was awful.
I'm not in LC, but it's bizarre to me that you think the school calendar should be based on accommodating families' travel plans. Are all LCPS air conditioned?

It's never made sense to me why our kids go so long.
For reference, my nieces in CA started school 08/12/2024 and get out 05/22 or 05/23/2025. They started only a week and a half before, but they get out 3 weeks earlier! And their school days are much shorter as well. I believe they start (in high school) at 8:30 and get out of school at 2:45.
My sister's kids in AZ started Aug 7 and will get out on May 22. School starts at 9 and gets out at 3:30. The kids can come from 8:30-9 for free breakfast for all, too.
Going 9:30 to 4:20 is such a long day and I hardly see my HS kid. She's always still asleep or just getting up when I leave for work, so at the most I see her for 15 minutes before school. I get home at around 6 and she doesn't get home from after school sports/activities until 7 or 8 or later if it's a game night. Then it's HW, studying, shower, and dinner... it's all a blur. I stayed with my sister in AZ recently while on a work trip and it was so calm after school, and they always got to eat as a family because sports and activities were all finished by 7 pm if not earlier.

It also lets you spread out childcare costs. I’d love a year round schedule and would likely move and quit my APS job for Loudon if this happens.
