Sorry, this is bizarre. You should own the phone, and they should be on your plan. That is parenting 101. This allows you to control and monitor their phone through yours. Clearly you dropped the ball there. Grandpa can put money in their college fund. But you really need to be the one to own and control the phone yourself.
