OMG you know nothing about VT! Football is huge! Pep is huge. There's frat and sorority houses. How do you not know this!!!!

Neither would I, and I certainly wouldn't pay for OOS to be in College Park. It's such a dump.

Why not?

Because UMD > Vtech in every ranking, if that's important to you.

But, if your kid wants a different setting, and you can afford it and don't care about rankings, then go for it.

By the by, UMD beats Vtech in football pretty much every year.

Is UMD football still poorly attended? At least VT fans care.

We were at a UMD football game last night. It was packed.

Would you choose UVA over UMD in state?

UMD offers so many more opportunities that are not available in a rural setting. VT is the biggest thing happening in Blacksburg. If you want internships, summer jobs, coops, you are much better off in college park.

Absent a scholarship, the value proposition is not there for VT OOS vs instate UMD.

She wasn’t obsessed with Virginia Tech but was happy to be going. (She was accepted but didnt get to visit UGA and OH State. It was Covid and everything was messed up. )
Transferred to Maryland second semester of freshman year. Was so happy!!!

Blacksburg was too rural. And CP was not high school part 2. And the $$ savings was wonderful and should not be over looked.

How was VT too rural?

Yea, UMD is huge. It doesn't have to be HS 2.0 if you don't want it to. It's so big and diverse you can find different groups.

My kids hate rural settings. They like having a metro nearby to go into DC, and even NY. DC goes to NY often from UMD taking the metro/amtrak/bus, not to mention the proximity to so many jobs for internships year round, which DC also has.

Of course they care more. Theirs nothing else to VT and where it's located.
