Is CDMX a good choice to visit for the Thanksgiving or Christmas break?

Took two teens to Mexico City and loved it. There are parts that are safe and clean. So much to see and do. The food is excellent too.

It’s an incredible city. I’ve been a few times and am taking my 5 year old next spring too. Have fun!

If you can afford somewhere else, I'd go somewhere else.

Mexico's primary attraction is not that it's inexpensive. By saying that you've outed yourself as someone who has limited knowledge outside what you're reading on Breitbart or wherever.

Besides, Mexico City isn't that cheap for travelers anymore. 🙂

"It does have some cultural attractions." 🤡

We went last year for 10 days and could have stayed longer.

The posts saying how dangerous it is are ridiculous. We walked around town, took buses and trams, rented a car, etc. and had absolutely no fears or concerns at any time.

His family tries to get him to visit and tell him the cartels don't bother people who mind their own business. He told them whatever, no thanks.

So, my question is why go somewhere that is totally and completely corrupt. Where if you run into any even small problem, you will probably be extorted to hand over money, because that is just how things work there and that's what people expect and are used to.

I asked another person what he enjoyed most about living in the U.S. He said "the rule of law." For the most part, the rules apply to everyone.

So you've never been but you "mentioned it to someone from Mexico."

Listen, Mexico has 130+ million people. There are lots and lots of Americans who are afraid to go to NYC, DC, Chicago, and San Francisco. Likewise, Mexicans who have never been to Mexico City sometimes feel the same about their capital city.

It's a great city. The cartels don't run the city.

You could definitely go for a week and plan on a day or two of day trips of you want to get out and about more. Central Mexico has a ton of towns to see within a couple hours of the capital.

Places change. It’s like asking somebody who left D.C. in the 1980s whether it’s worth visiting now.

You are awful. Mexico City is a beautiful and fascinating place. OP would have a great time there.

We did CDMX for spring break in 2019 with 8 and 10 year olds and it was awesome. One thing to note - Easter week is also a vacation time for Mexicans. As the week went on it got more crowded. Might want to book trip to Teotihuacan in advance. Even with the crowds, I’d 100% recommend for a family trip.

I’d do it! I loved CDMX. I went in May 2019, and the weather was great. We stayed in Condesa. Lovely walkable neighborhood. We also did a day trip to Teotihuacan, which was amazing. I think it was an hour or so outside the city; we got a driver. It was worth it.

Highlights:
- the food. Never had a bad meal, from fine dining (Pujol is a hot spot) to small restaurants in the neighborhood.
- Teotihuacan. Amazing history and so well maintained. Worth the trip out. Stunning views.
- Anthropology Museum. One of the best museums in the world.
- Frida Kahlo’s house
- Trotsky’s house

I took my family of teens for winter break last year and it was amazing! I wish we’d been able to stay longer, and I plan to return. We did one week there and wish we’d had ten days. Truly an amazing city. Pyramids just outside of town, canal boats with floating mariachi bands and women cooking in these little boats, world class museums (the museum of Anthropology!!!!), great gardens, excellent food, super friendly people (but also cosmopolitan, and they were never shocked or surprised that we spoke Spanish, eg). It felt no more dangerous than NYC. I have a friend whose mom lives there- and she grew up there- and I think the traffic and the crime are more of an issue if you live there. It is SUCH a great place to visit. We all already want to go back.

The food scene there is incredible, both the haut cuisine and the street food. The museums and galleries are world-class and there is wonderful culture beyond the visual arts. Tons of history and diverse cultures. It’s become one of my favorite cities and I look forward to going again soon. We had discussions with numerous locals and friends who live there and the allegations of corruption are way overblown especially in that part of the country. We had zero issues with renting an apartment and staying in a hotel, hiring guides, taking Ubers and also just walking around.

The weather is great most of the year, I was there in February and August and it was perfect both times, with February being a bit warmer.

Not op but I’m taking my kids in February as well! Can you suggest some of the places you enjoyed?
