Our son is quitting club for the same reason - with no aspirations to play in college it’s. Lot of time and money and showcases for kids who DO want to play in college. He will train on his own and stay in shape as he loves playing for his high school team. He seems relieved and we are happy with his decision.

Colleges don’t recruit out of HS and it was toxic so what’s the point. If they only played for one or the other it makes more sense to play where it’s better coaching and the season is much longer. I’m all for playing for school teams for the sense of community but mine has plenty of school friends and has found a wonderful extended family through club soccer with current and former teammates from all over the DMV.

+1 not a goal keeper but similar story for us

HS soccer is why kids burn out. The coaches are ridiculous and awful - even at schools that are successful. Their egos are so inflamed that they make the kids spend a ridiculous amount of time to be on the HS soccer team when it really should just be a fun school activity.

HS soccer conditioning and excessive focus on fitness (without professionals guiding) not suited for soccer, especially in preseason is the perfect recipe for injuries and burnout

This is how it is at our HS. It’s ridiculous. Most get injured. High burn out rate. Even the ones that likely could have played in college are done. My kid plays in college and a lot had to do with us balancing their training/play ourselves. He quit HS by junior year.

Not sure what you are asking op. My kid made varsity on a MIAA A team one year after quitting club soccer, most of the kids still play club though. My kid is a three sport athlete and was also playing another club sport so there was just no time, he did work with a soccer coach one on one for a hour on weekends for most of the offseason.

Mine chose the opposite. Quit HS last 2 years. They really love the sport and HS was just not challenging (even if they weren't going to play in college--though oldest is now). They also went to a club that plays year-round, Mlsnext...has two full seasons, showcases off-season, etc. It doesn't shut down one season like ECNL--which they really hated since their HS was Fall and their ECNL team was spring (and spring was the season with no games for them and hardly anyone at practice).
