There are league rules on this (depending on what league you are in/looking to go to) so make sure you do your homework. I did the homework and was within the rules, but my son's current club at the time freaked out and removed him from the team...with no refund. Just straight kicked a 9-year-old out of the club. He was their best player and attended every practice. Dedicated and put in the work.
In our case, he is a good enough player that the new club wanted him to join their top team...so I didn't really care what the old club thought. But if your situation isn't the same then you should beware. Clubs are ridiculous.
Is that even legal? What was the justification for kicking him off the team when you had paid your fees? If you didn’t break the rules how were they able to do that? It just worries me because we would like to make a mid season move but the team we are looking at has a lot of players who know our current team. If word gets back I don’t want my DC kicked off a team without an offer.

The player was average, not great, but not bad.... totally bypassed the tryouts all together. Fast forward 6 weeks, the kid is still here and making friends on the team. Still not on the team yet, but its very likely they will be come spring time or very least, they will have a leg-up at tryouts next March.

The coach can always say 'no'. My kid was invited to attend practices with a team all spring and then told after 2-3 months that he wasn't getting picked up![]()
There were 3 other kids that the same thing happened to.
So just because he is there doesn't mean he's going to be on the team.

This sounds annoying.

It may be annoying, but the truth is, open try-outs are for suckers.
