There are league rules on this (depending on what league you are in/looking to go to) so make sure you do your homework. I did the homework and was within the rules, but my son's current club at the time freaked out and removed him from the team...with no refund. Just straight kicked a 9-year-old out of the club. He was their best player and attended every practice. Dedicated and put in the work.

In our case, he is a good enough player that the new club wanted him to join their top team...so I didn't really care what the old club thought. But if your situation isn't the same then you should beware. Clubs are ridiculous.

Is that even legal? What was the justification for kicking him off the team when you had paid your fees? If you didn’t break the rules how were they able to do that? It just worries me because we would like to make a mid season move but the team we are looking at has a lot of players who know our current team. If word gets back I don’t want my DC kicked off a team without an offer.

This is a slam dunk lawsuit against the club if you’ve paid up. They do not own you.

Some clubs are just bad throughout regardless of the age group. If you really dislike your kids team you should find greener pastures.

Best way is to just email the coach. Most will invite you to a training session at the very least.

You can also explore different teams within your own club. If your kid is good enough, some clubs will bend over backwards to make accommodations to keep you.

The rules are..there are no rules.

We did an internal move from one team to another within the same club. After the season was over, we moved to a new club, and it was the best move.

Still not on the team yet, but its very likely they will be come spring time or very least, they will have a leg-up at tryouts next March.

The coach can always say 'no'. My kid was invited to attend practices with a team all spring and then told after 2-3 months that he wasn't getting picked up There were 3 other kids that the same thing happened to.

So just because he is there doesn't mean he's going to be on the team.

^ and this was after being the 4 kids picked out of a 100 player ID session.

This sounds annoying.

Do you truly know what happened though? Often, the director is involved. Saw the kid and okays them attending practice. The current players/families don't know the whole thing.

We have a kid who arrived late to a Club after one team folded (august). First team thought he was great and wanted him--but then there was a full roster so they came back and said keep coming to train with us, play games w/ 2nd team. The level of play is better, faster, etc on first team. You aren't going to progress if you continue to play at a slower speed/lower level. My other kid had a similar scenario and it took a year to make his way to a starting spot on that upper team and then progressed enough to make a D1 squad.

So you can gossip all you want---I never even talked to the coach other than the one email asking for a tryout. And then it was through my kid. But, yeah, I guess some parents probably are talking crap w/out knowing I still have never met the coach.

It may be annoying, but the truth is, open try-outs are for suckers.

Not suckers, don't be mean. The area's top team recruited my player for her age in tryouts. Yet, attending invite practices might give the player better exposure. If the player is good, they will land a spot where they need it.
