We are white-Asian and have never used that term, OP. My son is friends with anyone who is kind and outgoing, and my daughter is friends with anyone who is intelligent and snarky. It's true their best friends in high school have been Asian, but in college it's been more mixed. Maybe it's because our school system has a lot of Asians, and their colleges have fewer Asians, relatively speaking? They don't go out of their way to seek out Asians or whites, is what I mean.

My Californian Whasian went to UVa. Mixed with everyone in both locations.

Intel? I heard it about 20 years ago from a woman friend who identified as one.

When Wasians marry Wasians, they can end up with kids who don’t look like their siblings depending on how the genes mix.

“Hapa” is an incel term. Wasian is the appropriate word.

Yes my white+Asian son uses it. I don’t think it’s offensive/racist but I guess it’s probably lot a term used outside of their own group. (Eg I wouldn’t use it at work)

It's a more edgy and specific version of Hapa and HAPA.

My wasian DC is very comfortable straddling both worlds, but does see herself as more Asian, because that’s how others see her. She loves being with other Wasians!

Back to OP's question.

My whasian DC doesn't seem to have many whasian friends. However, my other DC in MCPS HS has dated two whasians so far.

There are a lot in MCPS, but most colleges are a lot bigger than HS, so you won't find that many whasians, even in colleges in CA. There are more and more of them, but it's still pretty small in relation to the whole population.

I had two good whasian friends growing up in SoCal back in the 80s.

I’m 48 and we used this term when I was in high school (at TJ, fwiw).

West coast calls it hapa. I first heard "Whasian" from my kids who went to MCPS. They are whasian.
