What ages, OP?
My 5th grader still likes toys but is also getting some books and some things related to her musical instrument.

HS age son will likely get a board game, books, and some things related to his sport.

I also use Christmas as a time to make sure they have everything they need regarding winter clothing, boots, art supplies, technology needs, etc.

DS13 is bursting through sneakers like the Hulk lately, so Santa will be bringing him new basketball shoes + fun socks. He also likes DIY snack boxes with exotic new munchies and candies to try.

It’s not that they’re minimalists, they’re in a new phase of life too. Toys aren’t interesting anymore but they are still too young to know what their interests, styles, preferences are in the world beyond toys. It’s a tough phase to buy for, but as they mature and develop their real interests it does get easier.

DP. Mine has strong interests, but there is only so much I can buy for them. He doesn't need more soccer/basketball gear, chess paraphernalia or puzzle/board games. He's not really interested in going to a concert or sports game. He also just had a birthday, which ate up all the ideas I did have. Hoping for some generic inspiration here!

+1 for experiences, depending on interests...Escape Room, rock climbing, movies, concerts, sporting games, Adventure Park @ Sandy Spring, coupon for favorite restaurant with a friend, etc.

The standard tween/teen girl list: leggings (Lulu if you can swing it), sweatshirts, Kendra Scott necklace, Uggs, Nikes, Owala water bottle, Sephora/Ulta gift card, Starbucks gift card.

I know my 12 year old would love a phone but I feel one more year till she gets it. Other than she doesn't have many interests. Maybe an Ipad but again she already uses the laptop so much so why another gadget.

At these ages you really just have to know your kids’ niche interests. My (just turned) 11 year old wants the baggy pajama pants she sees older kids wearing as pants, hoodies, lots of Taylor Swift stuff, friendship bracelet supplies and art supplies, a couple Squishmallows, anything Sanrio, Lush bath bombs, claw clips, anything related to Studio Ghibli, and fuzzy socks. She’d love an iPhone that she’s not getting because she’s only 11.

15 year old wants “Stevie Nicks inspired clothing” so she’s getting boots, lots of flowy skirts, bell bottom jeans. She’s getting Marina and the Diamonds and Lana Del Ray CDs and merch, some books on witchcraft which she’s interested in, some Sabbat ritual kits I found on Etsy. We might use an upgrade on her busted ass old iPhone 10 but she couldn’t care less if we did or not, it doesn’t bother her.

Do your kids like any artists? I took both my kids to live music this year (Stevie Nicks in Baltimore for the older one, Eras Tour for the younger) and they loved having that special 1:1 experience with me each time. Maybe see if your kids’ favorite artists are playing around here in the future and grab tickets.

For teeens/young teens a few years ago, Comfys were a fun surprise gift.
